Amsterdam PD investigating deceased dog

Posted: Updated:

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Amsterdam Police are searching for information regarding a dog that was found deceased on Park Street on Monday.

Lieutenant Curt Conroy with the Amsterdam Police Department said a resident found the deceased dog wrapped up in a curtain near abandoned homes and an old factory.

The female brindle and white mix breed dog was taken to the Montgomery County SPCA. Conroy said the dog had injuries similar to an animal attack.

"She had several puncture wounds, laceration in her shoulder area," he said. "Underneath the front leg a couple of other wounds on legs and paws."

Police believe the wounds were probably inflicted by another dog.

"Right now we are not sure if the owners of the dog didn't know what to do or didn't have the money to take the dog to a vet or just go rid of the animal on the side of the street," Conroy said.

Police believe the dog died as a result of her wounds, but police are still looking for the owner and want to know why the dog was left alone.

Those that have any information are asked to contact the Amsterdam Police Department at (518)-842-1100 x 238.

Last week, a man was arrested for allegedly binding and drowning a dog in Glens Falls.
