Capital Region residents get out for National Walking Day

TROY, N.Y. – The American Heart Association hosted a walking event Wednesday to raise the importance of movement.

April 2 is National Walking Day. The AHA and workers from a variety of companies joined together at Rensselaer Tech Park Wednesday to get healthy.

Workers went outside to take a walk and also visited educational booths as well. They were shown how to perform CPR, how to react if someone has a heart attack and how to eat healthy.

Those who joined said it was a great event.

"You need to get out and have a healthy lifestyle and be aware of the things that promote health," participant Anne Adams said. "So if you're not active, get out and start walking 30 minutes five days a week will make a difference in your health."

The AHA said people need to get moving because since 1950, sedentary jobs have increased by 83 percent.
