PITTSTOWN, N.Y. – New York State Police have identified the male body that was recovered from a pond Tuesday.
Authorities said they responded to a 911 call for a drowning around 6 p.m. Tuesday on Route 7 in Pittstown. The body was recovered from a pond on Strong Brothers Sports Dome property.
The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Matthew Philpott. Police said Philpott was checking on a pump used to drain the pond when they believe he lost his footing and fell into the pond.
Philpott was located under the ice by Pittstown Emergency Services and removed from the pond. His body was transported to Albany Medical Center.
The cause of death was determined to be asphyxia due to drowning with possible hypothermia as a contributing factor.
