Jesse Sawyer Jr. criminal complaint unsealed in court

ALBANY, N.Y. – The criminal complaint against a Troy man accused of sexually abusing young children was unsealed in federal court Monday.

Jesse Sawyer Jr. was arrested and charged with Production of Child Pornography on Friday. He is being held in Florida where he was arrested. Police said the 25-year-old took ‘selfies' of himself in the act of having sexual conduct with children under the age of five years old.

The criminal complaint used to get a federal warrant against Sawyer was unsealed in by the Northern District Court Monday and revealed the details of the investigation.

"The sickness is absolutely, totally unbelievable," local attorney Arnie Proskin said.

The complaint points out the investigation started on January 19 when the girlfriend of Sawyer's father discovered numerous sexually explicit photos on a laptop she let Sawyer use while he was living with his father.

Troy Police acquired the pictures and spoke with the mother of the three victims. Sawyer acknowledged to the mother he knew about the pictures and said he was sorry for what he did via Facebook messages, according to the complaint.

The complaint states one of the messages read, "I know I need help. This is not who I am. I never wanted to hurt the children."

"This man is a terrible danger," Proskin said. "He says in his statements, ‘Oh, I need help.'"

Authorities said the pictures were taken with the children between March and June 2013. Proskin read the complaint for the first time Monday and said Sawyer doesn't have much of a defense.

"They've got a rock solid case, I think, because of what [Sawyer] said," he said.

Proskin believes Sawyer could possibly face more charges in addition to the federal charges he's currently facing.

"He could also be facing state charges, too," he explained.
