Staten Island man sentenced on weapon charge


ALBANY, N.Y. – A 38-year-old Staten Island man was sentenced to state prison on Monday on a weapons charge.

Demetrius Walton was sentenced to 5 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision in Albany County Supreme Court.

On March 12, 2014, Walton pleaded guilty to one count of felony Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

On September 10, 2013, the defendant was pulled over for a traffic infraction by members of the Albany Police Department on Teunis Street. As officers spoke with the defendant, they learned that his driver's license was suspended and removed him from the vehicle. 

A search of the vehicle uncovered an unregistered Browning Arms .25 caliber handgun loaded with 2 rounds of live ammunition. While in police custody, the defendant admitted that the handgun was his.
