LATHAM, N.Y. – A new kind of grocery store in Latham is offering shoppers a unique approach to regular grocery shopping.
The new Market Bistro in the Latham Price Chopper has been open for the past couple months, but it is completing the finishing touches.
The store gives shoppers a one-of-a-kind experience including a sit down restaurant, cooking school and made-to-order eateries.
Bistro Boulevard is where shoppers can find 15 eateries ready to make whatever dish a diner would like. Dishes include fresh made salads, artisan break, sushi, beef brisket and an ice cream bar. Market Bistro also boasts a sit-down restaurant and cooking school.
"Many of us have been to Boston to Quincy Market to Faneuil Hall. It's a bit of that this store is a little bit of all of those wonderful seashore restaurants in Main and New Hampshire along the coast where you get all that wonderful seafood and lobster. We have that here, too," Neil Golub with Price Chopper said.
Golub said more Market Bistros will be coming to the Capital Region.
"People are going to see us roll out many of these ideas in other stores," he said. "This obviously is an experimental store for us. It is unique among American supermarkets. I don't think in my experience I've seen a lot of really good operators do a lot of really neat things, but I haven't seen them go as far as we've gone to make sure every item a customer orders is prepared to order."
