GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – The Guilderland Central School District is looking to present a claim to be reimbursed for the cost of repairing a damaged athletic field.

Superintendent Dr. Marie Wiles met with New York State Department of Civil Service Commissioner Jerry Boone Tuesday to explain the process for presenting a claim to the state for reimbursement to repair the damaged athletic fields at Farnsworth Middle School.

The fields were destroyed March 22 during a State Civil Service Exam administered at the school. Boone visited the fields after meeting with Wiles.

Repairs to the field are scheduled to begin immediately, but due to the extent of the damage, the four acres of land affected will not be used through at least the spring. The fields were used primarily for lacrosse and soccer as well as physical education classes.

Until the land is usable again, modified sports practices and games and physical education classes will be relocated to either the back or side fields at the middle school.
