DEC asks EPA to update spill contingency plans

ALBANY, N.Y.—New York's DEC is asking the EPA to get to work in case of an oil spill.

The state DEC commissioner wrote a letter to the EPA urging its federal counterpart to update its spill contingency plans immediately.

Under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, it is the Environmental Protection Agency's responsibility to make the plans.

The port of Albany is a major hub for transporting crude oil and spill concerns have been a main point against a proposed heating expansion there.
