CATSKILL, N.Y.—The Catskill Police Department informed all citizens to be aware of a scheme targeted at individuals in and outside the community.
These phone call schemes are from a person identifying themselves as the IRS or any utility company stating they owe money and must send it immediately.
Anyone receiving this type of phone call is asked to obtain as much information from the person calling as possible, and then contact their police department immediately.
The individual on the phone may ask that the money be sent on a "green dot" card or another prepaid type of credit card.
Local police agencies are working on these cases with federal authorities.
Anyone who has been a victim of this type of crime is asked to contact the Catskill Police Department at 943-2244.
