TROY, N.Y. -- The manhunt for a wanted Troy man is still underway.
Troy Police say they are now looking for the accused perpetrator in Virginia, the Carolinas and Florida.
A federal arrest warrant was issued for Jesse Sawyer, Jr. who police say is responsible for the Production of Child Pornography involving at least one victim under the age of five.
"In this case we are talking about infants," Troy Police Captain John Cooney said. "We are talking about children who are literally only years old; very, very disturbing. And about the worst that I have seen or heard in my time with the department."
Police said Sawyer took pictures of himself while allegedly sexually abusing the small children with his cell phone. Sawyer then downloaded the photos onto someone else's computer.
"The person came across those images on their computer, and then did the right thing and led us to the location of the phone," Cooney continued.
Specific facts surrounding the incident are being withheld, according to police, but they say it "is fair to say that the warrant does not address all the heinous acts perpetrated by the suspect; additional charges are likely upon apprehension."
Police say they do not know how long this was going on for or if there are any other victims. They said they became aware of the alleged crime in January.
Cooney said Sawyer was a child when adults in his life were being arrested for sex crimes.
"Our research into those surrounding Mr. Sawyer in his childhood shows that there were criminal acts of sexual conduct that people were held responsible for," he said. "And we, today, have him engaging in the worst level of the same type of sexual conduct."
Cooney said Sawyer was likely alerted to the law closing in on him by family or friends, and he has not been seen for four days.
The suspect's last known address is 131 Sherman Ave. in Troy. He is described as 5' 8" tall, 160 lbs. with brown hair and hazel eyes. Officials believe Sawyer is still in the Troy area, but airports, bus stations and railway stations have been alerted to be on the lookout for Sawyer.
"There's no reason to believe he's left our boundaries," Cooney said. "Jesse Sawyer has been ID'd as an extremely dangerous individual, and an individual we need to get behind bars sooner than later."
Anyone with knowledge of the suspect's whereabouts is urged to call Troy Police at (518) 270-4411. All calls will remain confidential.
