Police: Two teens arrested for back to back burglaries


TROY, N.Y. – Two teenagers have been arrested after a burglary in Troy on Tuesday morning.

Troy Police say that around 9:30 a.m., police were called to the lower 400 block of 4th Street to a reported burglary in progress. The resident was home at the time of the burglary. Police say the victim heard noises of someone forcing their way into the kitchen of her home and quickly locked herself in her bedroom on the second floor.

The victim told police that the suspects indicated they knew someone may have been in the home and decided to flee on foot prior to the arrival of police.

Around 10:20 police were called to another report of a burglary in progress on St. Vincent Avenue. The resident was once again in the home while the crime was being committed. A Troy Police officer made the decision to leave the scene of the first event and respond to the second burglary in progress. Prior to arriving at the second residence, the officer observed two males in the area of the Neff Athletic Center on Fifth Avenue.

While attempting to interview the persons, one immediately putting his hands up and dumping property from his person. The second suspect allegedly fled on foot.

Another officer was able to respond to the area of travel by the second suspect. Authorities say that in the area of Neff, the officer saw the second suspect fleeing up a huge embankment at the rear of the Neff facility.

Following a foot pursuit, additional unites arrived to the scene and located the suspect. He was positively identified as the perpetrator in both burglaries.

Shauntavius Venson, 17, has been charged with two counts of burglary 2nd, Grand Larceny 4th, Petit Larceny and Criminal Mischief 3rd.

A 16-year-old was charged with two counts burglary 2nd, Grand Larceny 4th, Petit larceny, Criminal Mischief 3rd and Resisting arrest.

Troy Police believe that the suspects may have been involved in other burglaries in the area. An investigation continues.
