Town of Waterford Police encourage residents to download ping app

WATERFORD, N.Y. – The Town of Waterford Police Department has deployed Ping4 Inc.'s Hyperlocal Citizens Alerts App.

"Ping4Alerts!" was created to instantly notify citizens of public safety concerns. This is a free app for iOS and Android smartphones. Using a web based browser, Waterford Police will be able to draw a shape on a map as small as a street or broadcast a message to citizens.

The app does protect a user's anonymity and does not require users to provide any personally identifiable information such as a phone number, street address or email address. All notifications through the app will be delivered over the internet through GPS, cellular, and available WiFi networks.

Everyone in the town is encouraged to download "Ping4Alerts!".

"We are pleased to be the first public safety agency in New York State to offer this important and meaningful smartphone application for the safety and protection of our community," said Waterford Town Supervisor John Lawler. "This platform increases our ability to reach people quickly."
