Excited residents overcome cold for Jack's Drive-In opening day

WYNANTSKILL N.Y. – After a long, cold winter Jack's Drive-In on Main Avenue in Wynantskill is opening just in time for spring.

Jack's is once again serving its famous sliders and cheese fries. However, there is something new to the menu starting this year. The drive-in will be serving up mini hotdogs with homemade meat sauce.

"I want to be the first to get a Jack's burger. I've been waiting for them to open up since they closed last season," said Romashia Harrison of Wynantskill.

Harrison, also known as May, came straight to Jack's Drive-In right after working an overnight shift. While she did arrive an hour too early, they still served her anyway.

"Once I saw the sign they were opening up today I was very excited," she said.

May has been coming to Jack's for the past six years and said she's been waiting for this very moment all year long.

"The onions on top of the burger are slamming. The burger is juicy. I don't think you can get another burger like Jack's," said Harrison.

Many people in the Capital Region agree with her.

"It a simple item, unique item, and has a unique taste. The calls come in, asking when are we open," said co-owner Joe Deeb.

Deeb was hoping opening day would bring warmer weather, but he says it's just a sign that summer is on its way.

"You take your chances with the weather. This winter, you know what it's been like. People will start sitting on the picnic tables. We will have our bike nights back for bikers and motorcyclists. So that's going pretty good," said Deeb.

Jack's looks forward to seeing all their loyal customers back for another year, enjoying what was voted the best hamburger in the Capital Region in Living Magazine.

They opened up at 11 a.m. and will close for the night at 8:45 p.m.
