Saratoga Springs granted Vietnam War Commemorative Partner status

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Mayor Joanne D. Yepsen announced Monday that the City of Saratoga Springs has received formal designation as a "Vietnam War Commemorative Partner" from the United States Department of Defense.

"Saratoga Springs has a proud tradition of honoring her veteran community. The City has long been at the forefront of such commemorations in the past, most recently in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, and again in 2003 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice," Mayor Yepsen noted.

The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and "while conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, state and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War."
