ALBANY, N.Y. -- A committee working to add to the New York State Fair's daily parade is seeking input from the public as it designs a State Fair float to serve as the centerpiece of a reinvigorated event.
Designs and ideas for the float are being solicited by the committee, which is being headed up by a member of the State Fair Advisory Board. Board member Rockette Brunetti was once a volunteer director of the daily parade.
"The parade is one of the signature events of the Great New York State Fair. We want to make a great event even greater, with more music, more participation from the community, and a fabulous float to serve as the parade's anchor," Brunetti said.
The committee has reached out to some school and community groups to solicit design ideas. Any individual or group is welcome to submit design sketches that represent, as Brunetti said, "what you think of when you think of the Fair, including rides, food, music, animals - everything the Fair has to offer."
Sketches received by April 1 will receive consideration. Those involved in creating a winning sketch will receive recognition during the parade along with admission to the Fair and parking passes. Submissions can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. More information about the requirements for submissions can be found at www.nysfair.org/contact-us/parade/.
The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 21 - September 1, 2014. Its mission is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment. The theme of the 2014 Fair is "Summer's Best in Show."
