LATHAM, NY – New York State Police have released more information related to a motorcycle accident which occurred in Latham on Sunday.
According to authorities, around 11:18 a.m., a Trooper observed a motorcycle speeding southbound on the Northway near Exit 12. Police say the man was traveling 107 mph in a 65 mph zone.
The Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the motorcycle, however, police say that the motorcyclist would slow down giving the appearance that he was stopping, then he would accelerate away from the Trooper.
The motorcycle was seen leaving I-87 at Exit 6 when the Trooper lost sight of the suspect, according to police.
Shortly after the Trooper lost sight of the man, an accident involving the suspect and a car was located on State Route 9, just south of the Latham Traffic Circle. Police say the motorcyclist, who has been identified as William Varley, 24, was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered several injuries.
Varley was taken to Albany Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. The driver of the car has been treated for minor injuries.
State Police say Varley faces a number of vehicle and traffic tickets which include reckless driving, speeding, uninspected and unregistered motorcycle. They say possible criminal charges are pending.
