ALBANY, N.Y. - While St. Patrick's Day is a day to celebrate, it is important to be safe as well.
Governor Cuomo and police are cracking down on drunk driving on Monday. This is part of the ongoing campaign to prevent tragedies that happen because of impaired driving.
There will be extra sobriety checkpoints, more DWI patrols, and extra inspections on underage drinking. Plus, State Police will be ticketing distracted drivers that are using handheld devices.
Between 2007 and 2011, almost 300 people were killed by drunk drivers on St. Patrick's Day.
