TROY N.Y. – Early Thursday morning police received a call from Wal-Mart on Route 4 in East Greenbush in regards to shop lifting.
As officers were called to the Wal-Mart, the two shoplifting suspects took off in a car. The suspects entered I-90 at Exit 8. When authorities arrived to the area, the driver of the vehicle allegedly pulled over and stopped for police on the Patroon Island Bridge. However, the suspect drove off as the officer approached the vehicle, leading authorities on a car chase on I-787 and it led over the Green Island Bridge.
The chase ended on 8th and Peoples Avenue in Troy, when police crashed into the suspects' vehicle.
Two women were arrested and charged. Melissa Norris, 38, of Bristol, Vermont and Jamie Conant, 22, of Hampton New York are accused of stealing $400 in merchandise from the store. East Greenbush Police also say Norris and Conant were confronted by the store manager but grabbed and pushed the manager away.
Police say the suspect's vehicle and three police vehicles sustained body damage. It is reported that one Rensselaer City Police Officer suffered from a minor injury.
Norris and Conant have been charged with robbery in the 3rd degree, larceny, conspiracy, and other charges. They have been arraigned and remanded to County Jail while their court appearance date is pending.
Police say stolen property was recovered, which included an RCA Blue Ray Home Theatre System and two Keuric Coffee Brewing Systems.
The East Greenbush Police department is in charge of this investigation and NEWS10 ABC is expecting more information later this morning.
