Missing Shaker grad's family releases statement

LATHAM, N.Y. – The family of the missing man in Panama City has released a statement about the search for the former Shaker High School student.

Reny Jose, 21, is a student at Rice University in Houston but went missing in Panama City while on Spring Break with his friends.

The family released the following statement on Sunday afternoon:

"We, the Jose family, would like to thank our family, friends, the media and the public for their continued support. The Bay County Sheriff's Office has been working diligently to help us find Reny and for that we are so grateful. As we approach the end of the second week in our search for Reny, we are pleading for any information on Reny's whereabouts. The last two weeks have been the most difficult weeks of our lives. It is our sincere wish that the search for Reny remains active and that can only happen with your continued support and prayers. So again we are urging anyone with any information to please come forward.  Reny holds a very special place in our hearts and we refuse to give up."

Authorities say Jose was last seen on March 3 at 7 p.m. His friends told authorities that he went for a walk in the evening and never returned. He arrived to Panama City Beach on March 1 with his friends. His clothing and personal items were found in a garbage can near the home, including his cell phone.

Jose is described as 5'10" and around 185 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

The Sheriff's Office said it is possible Jose took drugs prior to his disappearance and that he may have a history of drug use.

Anyone with information about Reny Jose is asked to contact the Bay County Sheriff's Office at 850-747-4700.
