ALBANY N.Y. – With St. Patrick's Day falling on a Monday this year people, including the city of Albany are celebrating early.

Saturday is Albany's 64th annual St. Patty's Day parade.

The parade begins at on Central Ave and Quail Street. The parade continues down Central, onto Washington Ave, past city hall down to the intersection on State and Pearl Street.

Sheila Hyatt, 72, will be one of the Grand Marshall's leading the big parade Saturday. Sheila was elected this year by former grand marshals and other marshals of the eight divisions part of the parade.

"The only thing Irish about me is my first name, Sheila," said Sheila.

Sheila was introduced to the Irish culture upon meeting her husband. She said she got involved with the St. Patrick's Day parade in the 70s, where she would sew capes for the marchers. Ever since the Menands resident has been apart of the process and is now leading the event on Saturday.

"I'm so proud of everyone with all the work that the put into it," said Sheila.

This year marks the 50th year Sheila and the Menands St. Patrick's club march in the parade.

"North Albany switched with us normally they would have the grand Marshall this year. But since we have our 50th this year this kindly switched with us so we could have the grand Marshall's for this parade," said Sheila.

The parade will start at 2p.m., though if planning to attend, make sure you arrive early to find a good parking spot. There will be parking restrictions along the parade route starting at 7 Saturday Morning.  CDTA bus routes will be affected as well; you can check their website for more information.
