ALBANY, N.Y. – A 23-year-old Albany man has been convicted of cocaine possession.
Efrain Acevado III, 23, of Albany, was convicted following a jury trial of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a felony.
On October 30, 2012 at Albany Medical Center, nurses smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the defendant's hospital room and called security officers to investigate. The defendant, who was admitted to the hospital due to a stabbing injury he received several days earlier, confessed to smoking marijuana and also admitted to having additional marijuana in his book bag.
As security officers removed the marijuana from the bag they discovered 31 grams of crack cocaine.
He faces up to 9 years in State Prison and remains in the Albany County Correctional Facility to await sentencing.
