SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Most people chose to stay home due to heavy snow coming to the area, but the weather didn't stop theatre goers in Schenectady.

First responders were prepared for anything Wednesday with the incoming snow fall.

"We're gonna prep for the worst," Schenectady Fire Department Deputy Chief Kurt Gerfin said. "Expect for the worst and hope for the best."

Fire crews in Schenectady were called out to a fire early Wednesday evening. Gerfin said weather didn't cause the fire, but it didn't help the men and women working in the harsh weather conditions.

"You see the guys working on the roof, and they won't be doing that in another half hour or so just because of the danger," he said.

Also Wednesday night was a performance of the musical "The Book of Mormon" at Proctors Theatre, but the weather did not stop people from coming out to see the show.

Tom Salamonowicz of Bombers Burrito Bar is located across the street from the theatre. He said he was glad he was near the show because otherwise he said business would have taken a major hit.

"Usually, we'll get a rush around six o'clock starting for that because the show starts around 7:30, so we'll get about an hour and a half rush," he said. "Show gets out around 10 and then we'll get our other rush from that and then usually more of the cast and crew. So yeah, we still think a good profit for the night even though the weather's not too good."

Kyle Ferendzo of Burnt Hills was one of the few people enjoying the night on the town despite the weather. He chose to walk Wednesday night because of the conditions. He said it was a stroll he will not forget.

"It's pretty cold, really icy," he said. "It's coming down pretty hard with sleet and to walk around is pretty treacherous.
