Thursday marks one year anniversary of Herkimer shooting


HERKIMER, N.Y. - Thursday marks one year since a man went on a shooting spree in Herkimer County, killing four people and a police dog.

A vigil is set for Thursday to honor the victims.

Herkimer Police say the Village of Herkimer will observe a moment of silence at 9:29 a.m., marking one year since the tragedy began.

Four people were killed, two others critically injured before the suspect was killed by police after a 15 hour standoff. An FBI dog was also killed in the shooting rampage which sparked the passage of legislation increased the penalty for killing or injuring a police animal.
