COLUMBIA COUNTY, N.Y. – The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is reminding drivers to be safe on St. Patrick's Day.

Those who will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day with drinking are reminded to not get behind the wheel of a car. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that more than 269 people have been killed throughout the country in drunken driving crashes during the St. Patrick's Day holiday from 2007 to 2011.

Columbia County Sheriff's will have extra patrols on St. Patrick's Day and warns that anyone who is caught drunk driving will be arrested.
