$100,000 stolen from Guilderland Teachers Association

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – Guilderland Police are investigating a $100,000 theft from the Guilderland Teachers Association.

The GTA said they filed a complaint with police when they noticed the money was missing. The association has declined to say who may be responsible, but police confirm it is an association member who may have stolen the money.

William Cleveland has two children in the Guilderland Central School District.

"It's pretty pathetic if it's totally missing," he said.

The GTA is the district's largest union representing approximately 450 staff members, including teachers, social workers, school counselors and others.

Cleveland said they do a great job.

"It's an excellent school," he said. "It's an excellent principal they have there."

GCSD Superintendent Dr. Marie Wiles said in a statement:

"...The district is aware of the situation and is monitoring it closely. However, it is important to note that no formal charges have been filed against the individual at this time... In the meantime, the individual has been reassigned to duties that can be completed at the district office."
