SLINGERLANDS, N.Y. – Fire officials in Slingerlands are still searching for a cause in a fire that destroyed a family's home over the weekend.
Expectant mother Aimee Kleinke was not home at the time, but says her 9-year old daughter, Emma, was the first to notice any sign of danger.
Emma says she was playing with her sister when she started to smell the smoke. Her father, TJ, who was home at the time, made sure everyone got out of the house safely.
Aimee is nine months pregnant, and says her family was planning on moving into a new home next week in order to accommodate the baby on the way.
She learned over the phone that her family had lost everything.
"They didn't have any socks or shoes or coats on, they got out of the house so fast they didn't have anything on," she said.
Her husband TJ is still in the hospital for burn treatment.
Anyone interested in donating to the family can do so through their church, Saint Matthews Lutheran Church.
The church is located at 75 Whitehall Rd. in Albany or call (518) 436-8672(518) 436-8672.
They need food, clothes, household items and monetary donations. Here are sizes provided by the family:
