State Police: Malnourished and dead chickens found on man's property


COXSACKIE, N.Y. – A Coxsackie man is accused of not providing proper sustenance to chickens on his property.

New York State Police say Nestor Tello, 52, was arrested on Sunday for Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, of the Agriculture and Markets Law, a class A Misdemeanor.

Troopers say they were dispatched to a report of deceased animals at a residence on State Route 9W. Upon arrival, Troopers say they located numerous malnourished and deceased chickens in various chicken coops on the property.

Tello was arrested and charged. He was given an appearance ticket for March 17 in the Town of Coxsackie Court.
State Police were assisted with this investigation by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
