Vt. Governor calls for an increase to minimum wage

Posted:

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Governor Peter Shumlin is calling on Vermont's lawmakers to approve an increase in the state's minimum wage to a total of $10.10 an hour by 2017.

The governor says it's the right thing to do to help those at the bottom get closer to prosperity.

President Obama has proposed hiking the federal minimum wage to the same amount.

Vermont's minimum wage is currently $8.73 an hour -- the third highest in the nation.
