ALBANY N.Y. - Common core testing was the big topic of discussion at New York State School Boards Association Capital Conference Sunday.
Parents are Choosing to opt their children out of taking common core test in April.
In response Commissioner of Education Dr. John King said students are required to take the tests, and school districts should have their own guidelines of how to deal with those who refuse.
Some patent groups were a step ahead. Forms encouraging parents to choose to opt out of testing were being passed around. Parents were urged to choose the check off the opt out of assessment choice.
King said, parents should understand that there's good information that they will get from the assessments about how their child is doing, how they are progressing towards college, and career readiness. There is important information that schools and districts also get from the assessment results.
