SOMERSET, Vt., - Vermont State Police say they responded to a report of lost hikers on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly before 4 p.m. on Saturday, police received a report of three lost hikers on the East Branch Trail in the town of Somerset.
The caller said she was separated from her hiking party but the other hikers never made it to their meeting point. The three lost hikers are over the age of 70 and were not familiar with the trail.
Police say the hikers did not have snowshoes and were not equipped to stay in the woods overnight.
A search and rescue began shortly after the report with the assistance of the Wilmington Fire Department. Around 6:30 p.m., all three hikers were located in good health. They were escorted 2.5 miles down the trail on foot and left the woods around 9:45 p.m. All three hikers were checked as a precaution.
