Sen. Schumer wants heroin database in NY

ALBANY, N.Y. – New York Senator Chuck Schumer wants to establish a database to keep track of the increasing heroin problem across the state.

The database would track all heroin-related overdose deaths and arrests in New York to instantly provide law enforcement the information they need to better track and combat the problem.

"And if this database was available that every county in the Capital Region and every county in the state kept the same type database and could compare information, it would help law enforcement go after these drug rings and prevent the heroin scourge from becoming an epidemic," Schumer said.

Schumer said the database would be inexpensive, and the federal government has the money to create it.
