Paralyzed biker does not blame driver for injuries

LAWRENECE, Mass. – A motorcycle rider who was paralyzed when he was hit by an SUV during a roadway melee in September says he does not blame the driver for his injuries.

Edwin Mieses says he cannot judge what may have been going through driver Alexian Lien's mind at the time.

Mieses made the statement in an interview Wednesday morning. He also vowed to walk again.

The Sept. 29 encounter began when the SUV and a bike bumped on a Manhattan highway. Investigators said Lein hit the gas as other bikers converged and ran over Mieses.

Authorities said the bikers chased Lien, dragged him from his car, and beat him. An undercover police detective was accused of participating.

The detective and other bikers involved are facing charges. Lien is not.
