SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – During Tuesday night's City Council meeting Saratoga Springs residents were divided on the idea of casino expansion.
The council unanimously voted against hosting a casino, reversing a resolution passed in December of 2012.
New Yorkers voted yes for Proposition 1 back in November to build seven Las Vegas style casinos in the Empire State, four of which will first be built in Upstate.
Even though more than half of Saratoga community voters are against the proposition, expanding gambling at Saratoga raceway and casino is still a possibility.
The State Gaming Commission still has to issue a request for applications for a casino license, so Saratoga Springs could still wind up on that list.
The request for applications is expected out sometime this month.
