Two Troy residents’ charged with Grand Larceny

ALBANY, N.Y.—Two Troy residents attempted larceny at Crossgates Mall on Sunday.

Melissa Russell, 23, and Scott Cleland, 25, were arrested and after investigation, it was determined that both suspects stole an ipad Air and "Mophie" brand phone case/charger from the Sprint store.

The total value of the items stolen was $760.

Further investigation revealed that both suspects were also involved in a Grand Larceny that occurred at JC Penney on February 25, in which $12,292 worth of jewelry was stolen.

Russell was charged with Grand Larceny in the third degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fifth degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen property in the fifth degree.

Cleland was charged with Grand Larceny in the third degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree, and Attempted Grand Larceny in the fourth degree.

Both Russell and Cleland were sent to the Albany County Jail without bail and are due back in court on March 6.
