Albany men sentenced to prison for fatal robbery

ALBANY, N.Y. – Two Albany men have been sentenced to prison time for their roles in a fatal robbery.

Bernard White, 24, and Uquan Bean, 22, were each sentenced to State Prison in Albany County Supreme Court on Tuesday.

White was sentenced to 20 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision and Bean was sentenced to 14 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision.

On January 21, 2014, White and Bean both pleaded guilty to one felony Count of Robbery.

According to investigators, on September 13, 2012 at 9:30 p.m. in the area near Ontario Street in the City of Albany, White, Bean, and co-defendants Antwan Uptegrow, 36, and Shaquan Oliver, 23, attempted to rob Alex Duncan, then 35, in front of a neighborhood business. During the robbery attempt, Duncan was shot in the chest and later taken to Albany Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Uptegrow previously pleaded guilty to one felony Count of Robbery, and faces up to 12 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision when sentenced on March 15, 2014.

Oliver previously pleaded guilty to one felony Count of Robbery and faces 15 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision when sentenced on March 11, 2014. This will be served consecutive to an unrelated 13 year State Prison sentence stemming from his conviction of one felony Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, for a total of 28 years in State Prison.
