ALBANY, N.Y. – The Albany County District Attorney said an accused arsonist was arraigned on 12 charges on Monday morning.
According to D.A. David Soares, Matthew Woelfershein, 37, has been arraigned on three counts of burglary in the 3rd, one count of grand larceny in the 3rd, three counts of grand larceny in the 4th, and five counts of petit larceny.
The seven felonies charges and five misdemeanors stems from a 2012 incident. Woelfershein is accused of unlawfully entering a business on West Street in Albany between July 25, 2012 and September 1, 2012, and stealing over $1,000 of US Currency while inside.
The indictment alleges that the Guilderland man unlawfully entered
a residence on Watervliet Avenue in Albany on August 28, 2013 and August 31,
2013, and stole a sum of money while inside on both occasions.
Woelfershein is also accused of stealing morphine from a local ambulance company in Albany between August 16, 2012 and September 5, 2012.
Also, he allegedly defrauded the New York State Department of
Taxation and Finance in excess of $3,000 between February 6, 2013 and June 6,
The indictment also alleges that Woelfershein stole in excess of $1,000 from a local newsstand in Albany County between March 11, 2013 and March 16, 2013, in addition to stealing in excess of $1,000 from a local landscaping service in Albany County between April 25, 2013 and April 30, 2013.
He is also accused of stealing money from a victim in Albany
County on April 29, 2013.
Woelfersheim has been remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility with no bail.
He was previously charged with multiple counts of felony arson in the 3rd, in Guilderland Town Court, and those cases remain open and pending at this time, said Soares.
