ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany Convention Center Authority approved a resolution Thursday to buy land to start building the center in June.

The Albany Convention Center Authority reached an agreement with Columbia Development to buy a piece of land near Eagle and Howard Streets for a little over $4 million.

The ACCA is one step closer in building the Albany Capital Center, a project that has been in the works for nearly a decade.

Governor Cuomo approved this plan back in December to use taxpayer dollars to build an 82,000 square foot space.

The plan will create over 150 permanent jobs and over 100 construction jobs over the next two years.

"It's going to be a critical link to the Empire State Plaza, The TU Center so now building just a convention center, now we have linkage to three huge economic development engines in Albany," said Gavin Donohue, ACCA Board Chairman.

Construction for the project is set for June.
