ALBANY, N.Y.—An Albany man was found guilty after a jury trial on Wednesday.

Wayne Cole, 52, was found guilty of one Count of Attempted Robbery in the second degree and one Count of Assault in the second degree, both felonies.

A 92-year-old resident of Albany called the Police Department after Cole had injured and knocked her to the ground and dragged her while attempting to steal her purse. The victim sustained a fractured left hand and cuts and bruises to her arms and legs.

"This case was less about this defendant and more about a 92 year old hero who helped us remove this violent and shallow person from our community.  ADA Corbitt could not have secured this conviction without the commitment of Officer DiCarlo who personally reviewed over 100 hours of video surveillance, the detectives who interviewed the suspect, and the many witnesses who involved themselves in pursuing justice for their neighbor," commented DA David Soares.

Cole was sent to the Albany County Correctional Facility and has a potential of up to 14 years in State Prison upon sentencing April 23.
