STUYVESANT, N.Y. – Police have determined that the death of a young woman who jumped out of a car on Tuesday is accidental.
State Police said the accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday on State Route 9 in Stuyvesant. Authorities identified the victim as 26-year-old Jessica Sherman of Claverack.
The investigation revealed that Sherman suddenly exited the car for an unknown reason. The car was driven by an acquaintance. Police say it does not appear as though the victim was struck by the moving vehicle or any other vehicles.
The cause of death is ruled as massive head trauma which was caused by the impact with the road surface.
There are no criminal charges pending or anticipated, according to State Police.
The road was closed for several hours while officials conducted an investigation on Tuesday.
