Crews respond to 2-alarm fire in Pittsfield, house condemned

PITTSFIELD, Mass.  – Fire crews responded to a fire in Pittsfield Tuesday night at a four family apartment building.

The call for a fire came in around 9 p.m. Tuesday at 150 Wahconah Street Crews closed down the road while they battled the blaze.

The fire started in the upper right apartment of the four-unit building. There was heavy smoke on scene when crews arrived, and the fire had already spread to the attic.

Fire crews had to pull out of the building and took a defensive position. Seven fire trucks responded to the scene.

No residents were injured, though one firefighter did receive a minor injury to a hand.

All of the residents were taken to a nearby shelter, and they will be assisted by the Red Cross.

The fire is under control but crews say they are still extinguishing hot spots as of Wednesday morning

Officials say there was heavy fire damage to the second floor and attic. There was also water and smoke damaged to the lower floors. The house was officially condemned around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time as an investigation continues.
