Organization wants better management of invasive species at Lake George

Posted:

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. – The organization Protect the Adirondacks has developed a five-point plan to control and manage invasive species in Lake George.

The organization wants the Cuomo administration and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to use their plan.

The plan includes legislation that criminalizes the transport of invasive species, a comprehensive inspection and decontamination infrastructure, sustained funding, a launch law that criminalizes the launching of an uninspected or infested boat, and an organized registry of infested and non-infested waterways that will be continuously updated.

Spiny water fleas, Asian clams and milfoil are just a few aquatic invasive species that have taken over the lake.
