Freezing winter causing potholes, towns using filler until summer months

Posted:

COLONIE, N.Y. –  Potholes are a problem from drivers anytime of the year, but when there is a winter with long periods of freezing temperatures and snowfall, they become more prevalent.

Colonie Public Works Commissioner Jack Cunningham has been busy taking phone calls in response to potholes this winter.

The one issue the town has been having is keeping the gaps covered. Workers cannot use the regular pavement materiel they use in the summer because it has to be hot, so they have been using a filler called Durapatch.

"It's a tacky material that's designed to go into potholes and adhere as much as possible so you can get through the winter months and keep those holes filled in," said Cunningham.

NEWS10 ABC went with a crew on Monday to observe them fixing several potholes which will be coming up on NEWS10 ABC at 5 p.m.
