Pittsfield Police announce passing of K-9


PITTSFIELD, Mass., - The Pittsfield Police Department has announced that K-9 Nero has passed away.

Nero died on Friday, February 14, after a long illness. He was handled by Officer James Parise since 2006.

According to the Police Department, Nero spent eight years with them and responded to 419 K-9 calls throughout Berkshire County and other areas of Western Massachusetts. Nero apprehended a number of felons who were considered dangerous and he helped to seize over 40 pounds of illegal drugs.

K-9 Nero also helped to teach school children in Berkshire County with K-9 demonstrations.
