New Albany fire chief to be sworn in Tuesday


ALBANY, N.Y. – The new Chief of the Department of Fire & Emergency Services in Albany will be sworn in on Tuesday morning.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan will swear in Warren Abriel Jr., at 11 a.m. at City Hall. The 42-year fire department veteran is also a lifelong resident of Albany. He has served the Albany Fire Department since 1972.

Abriel earned a Master's of Science in Public Administration from Russell Sage College, a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Business, Management & Economics with a concentration in Fire Service Administration from Empire State College, an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Protection Technology and a Certificate of Fire Science from Schenectady County Community College. The new fire chief has also been certified as a Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Officer Level II, and New York State Instructor.
