Pasta dinner to benefit family of Trooper Cunniff

ROTTERDAM, N.Y. - An event is scheduled for next week to help out the family of a fallen New York State Trooper.

On March 7, the event will be held at the Rotterdam Elks Club, which will benefit the Cunniff family.

Tickets are $10 which will include a pasta dinner for dine-in or takeout. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Long sleeve and short sleeve t-shirts will also be available to purchase.

In December Fultonville Trooper David Cunniff was killed while conducting a traffic stop on I-90 in Amsterdam. Cunniff's patrol car was parked during the stop. His vehicle and the stopped vehicle were struck by a tractor trailer driven by 65-year-old Gary Blakley of Ridgeway, Ontario.

The tractor trailer was travelling in the right lane, left the roadway and hit both cars. The impact forced Trooper Cunniff's car off the right shoulder and partially ejected him from the vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle had to be extricated by the Amsterdam Fire Department.

Cunniff, a nine year State Police Veteran was only 35-years old, leaving behind a wife and two young sons.
