Snowmobiler arrested on several charges

LAKE LUZERNE, NY - On Saturday, the Warren County Sheriff's Office Snowmobile Unit was on duty and patrolling the Southern Warren trail system. At approximately 8:10 p.m., Snowmobile Unit Officers Greg Dunn and Ben Geisler attempted to stop a group of three snowmobilers operating on the Prospect Mountain Highway portion of the snowmobile trail.

The first snowmobiler refused to stop, instead accelerating and forcing Officer Dunn to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. The second snowmobiler also failed to stop and both fled up the trail. The Officers were able to get the third snowmobiler stopped.

Dunn checked the area and located one of the snowmobilers a short distance away.  38-year-old Ronnie E. Hendrick of Queensbury, operating a 2002 Ski Doo, was ticketed for failure to stop at a road crossing, and released to appear in Lake George Court at a later date.

The operator of the other snowmobile that nearly struck Dunn and fled was determined to be 48-year-old William J. Morehouse of Queensbury. The snowmobile he was operating, a 2004 Arctic Cat, was located and impounded. Morehouse was located and arrested this morning, charged with reckless endangerment, failure to stop at a road crossing, failure to comply with the direction of a police officer and reckless operation of a snowmobile. He was arraigned in Lake George Court and released to appear at a later date.
