GERMANTOWN, N.Y. – Germantown firefighters were called to a home on Main street. When they arrived they found the roof of porch had collapsed.
"Plus it appears snow slid down from the main structure and slid down onto the porch rood," said Michael Lawson, the fire chief.
When fire crews arrived their main concern was for the senior homeowner who had a pre existing medical condition. Fortunately, she was not near the porch and was not hurt.
Lawson says because of all the snow and rain coupled with temps that swing from freezing to mild, collapses have become a big concern around town.
"To my knowledge there are two other structures in this fire district that have failed," said Lawson.
A building inspector did check out the damage. He says the porch collapse does not pose any other risk to the main house.
