COLONIE, N.Y. – Hundreds of photographs from the investigation into two Colonie motels have been released.
On Thursday, the Colonie town supervisor and attorney said new violations have been filed against Colonie motel owner Alex Patel.
Two of Patel's properties, the Skylane Motel and Blu Bell Motel, were shut down after violations such as holes in the floors and no running water.
Town Attorney Mike Maguilli said a search warrant was served at the Blu Bell after he drove by the motel and noticed workers doing repairs, later discovering they didn't have a permit.
Patel has already been cited with 299 code violations at Skylane, and he now faces 418 violations for the Blu Bell location.
Officials said Patel was making money off the county by housing homeless, displaced families, and some sex offenders. Patel owns the Blu Bell Motel, Super 8, and a Golden Corral but the county said they have not placed anyone at the Blu Bell location in years.
Those who were living at the motel were paying $800 a month to live at the Blu Bell Motel. However, conditions were poor, which cracked windows, rooms without heat, and holes in some of the bathroom floors.
The county inspector who gave a passing inspection to the Skylane Motel was suspended in late January.
