SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y.--After being approved at the meeting of the Rensselaer County Legislature, the repair and reopening of the County Route 117 Bridge in Schaghticoke is set to begin.
The bridge carries County Route 117 over the Tomhannock Spillway.
"Getting the Route 117 bridge reopened is important to residents and us as legislators. We will be working with the county engineers and others responsible so the bridge repair project can be completed as quickly as possible," said Majority Leader Ken Herrington.
The bridge was closed to traffic in recent months due to age and overuse.
"We understand the closure has meant delays for some residents, so reopening the bridge will help reduce travel time and improve convenience and accessibility. This is a quality of life issue for those who live and work in the area," added Legislator Todd Tesman.
