SLINGERLANDS, N.Y. – The Capital Region is filled with hawks, but having one flying around a living room in someone's home is unlikely.

Saturday was a typical day for the Miller family in the Slingerlands. While a mother and father were at the supermarket, two girls were home when a hawk came crashing through the house.

A window was completely broken in the home after the hawk flew through.

"I thought it was first a turkey. It was on our couch in a weird position. It looked really strange so I ran upstairs and screamed to my sister because I got freaked out," said Laura Miller.

Not knowing what to do, Laura and Katie Miller called their parents.

"She was kind of panicked said there was a bird flying around house. I left my wife at the grocery store rushed back home," said Chris Miller, their father and the homeowner.

He said his first reaction was to call Bethlehem Animal Control.

Lori Becher from the Whispering Willow Wild Care came and picked up the bird, which the family affectionately named "Gary". She said the hawk is something the animal hospital doesn't usually see. Thankfully, the hawk was just fine.

"He is doing ok. We just got him in about an hour ago we have evaluated him it looks like he has some abrasions to the right wing. His left foot isn't functioning as well as we would like it to be and I'm a little worried he has some head trauma as well," said Becher.

The animal hospital is hoping Gary the hawk makes a full recovery.
